Christ is Risen! He is Truly Risen

Dear brothers and sisters,

Christ is Risen! He is Truly Risen! From our parish family, I wish you and your families a blessed and joyous Easter Season. As we are grateful for spring finally arriving after a long and difficult winter, we are grateful for God who has guided and sustained us to this very moment. The word “Alleluia” which we sing today for the first time in 40 days means “Praise God.” How can we not praise Him? When we say we are Resurrection People, we are not just sweeping aside all the trouble and difficulties of our past and present. We are saying that in our troubles – as many as they are – we have hope for the future, because God is on our side. Jesus has conquered death so that we might have life, and we are not alone! We work together as the Body of the Risen Christ to make our lives better, and to make our families, communities, country, and world better.

I can’t do this job alone. First, I want to express my gratitude to St. John’s Parish Staff for their great love of God and their thoughtful and amazing care for our church family. Most people have no idea or appreciation of how hard the staff works, and how many hours beyond their job description the put in here at the church – thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thanks for the many volunteers: decorators, musicians, liturgical ministers, parents and youth, and all the leaders in our various parish organizations. You make up the beautiful and diverse tapestry of our local Body of Christ.

In the weeks ahead, we have many Easter Celebrations: 40 Hours devotion, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, graduations, and many other celebrations of the spring. On Pentecost Sunday (May 20) we will once again have a Ministry Fair, to call our people to active use of God’s gifts in their life to serve our church. Today, as we renew our Baptismal Promises this Easter Sunday, may we all gratefully consider how God has graced us with so many blessings, and how we might even more generously give back to God by our commitment of time, stewardship, and service here at St. Johns. God bless you, and Happy Easter!

With blessings,

Fr. Reichlen
