Dear brothers and sisters,
You probably noticed a few weeks ago that we changed the parish Mission Statement on the front of the bulletin. The previous lengthier statement, which was carefully crafted by the parish Pastoral Council over 10 years ago, will still be on the parish website, but our Pastoral Council at our last meeting had no problem with a shortened statement which we admit was shamelessly copied from other churches: “Love God, Love People, Make Disciples.” These six words sum up our mission as a church. I know that the latest revelations of clergy sex abuse may make it only harder for us to reach out to Bushkill Bob, but our staff and leadership are strengthened in our resolve to keep up our current efforts of change. We had a recent series of training sessions for ushers and greeters, and the entire emphasis was on making our weekend Mass experience both safe and welcoming. Our efforts of changing our liturgical music toward the contemporary Praise and Worship genre, and improving the standard of excellence, are all about attracting the unchurched. I’m grateful to all parish leaders and ministers who are along for the ride – let’s generate some excitement for kicking off another new school year, and the amazing opportunities that God has in store for our parish and for our lives in this next year!
This Labor Day weekend, the last official gasp of summer, I’m getting the opportunity for some vacation time with family. Thanks to Msgr. Al LoPinto from the Diocese of Brooklyn for once again helping with weekend and daily Masses. There will be no daily Masses this Wednesday and Thursday, September 5 and 6. I look forward to our Youth Ministry Fall Kickoff on Sunday September 9 from 12 to 4 pm – all high school youth are invited. Please spread the word!
