Dear brothers and sisters,
As we get into the swing of a new year, I would like to clarify and explain some new initiatives that our church family is going to launch starting in the next few weeks. You probably already know that we’ve been experimenting with new contemporary music at all Masses, and we are still looking for guitarists and vocalists for our weekend Masses (call us if you know anyone!!!!) We are in the process of training and recruiting new ushers and greeters to enhance and organize the experience of welcoming at all Masses. Our major focus for this upcoming year is doing these two things really well, with a sense of excellence and purpose, as part of an intentional multi-year pastoral plan.
Also, we are launching a “soft” introduction to similar initiatives in other parish ministries. Starting next week, Deacon Max and I will be preaching a six-week series that is entitled “Next Steps.” We plan on preaching in multi-week series at least through the Advent Season. The message on the pulpit will “trickle down” to our Preschool, Faith Formation (formerly called CCD), RCIA, and Youth Ministry programming, as well as the Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the 11 am Mass. Our hope is that people will return week after week to hear the full series, which will offer a message that will challenge all parishioners to grow, no matter at what “stage” they are in the journey of discipleship.
All of these pastoral strategies follow from a VISION STATEMENT (still in draft form) for our church that our Leadership Team has developed, which expresses what we are trying to do in the next three years and beyond: “to be a welcoming, inspiring, and engaging center of faith, forming Catholics into servant followers of Jesus, who invite others to the journey of faith in the East Stroudsburg and Bushkill areas.”
With many blessings,
