Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Dear brothers and sisters,
On behalf of our entire parish staff I wish you and your families a blessed and holy Christmas! As we celebrate the Christmas season – including today, the Feast of the Holy Family, the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God on January 1, the Feast of the Epiphany next weekend, and finally the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord on January 13, we mediate on the beginnings of our Lord’s earthy life and calling. As Jesus was nurtured in his mother’s womb, raised in humble beginnings, and called to a great destiny – so we are called and chosen to something great. Unlike the Son of God, we are sinners, but we have been given a great dignity by the “divine exchange” – as God became man, may we become like God throughout our lives. In your New Year’s resolutions don’t sell yourself short!
I thank all of you for your generosity with the donations for Toys for Tots – we are able as a parish to provide several needy families with children the ability to celebrate Christmas. I thank our decorating team who has beautifully prepared our church for the season, and I thank the committee who has worked hard to plan our New Year’s Eve Gala. A reminder that our Masses for New Year’s (a Holy Day of Obligation) are Monday Dec. 31 at 4:00 PM and Tuesday Jan. 1 at 10:00 AM. We will be having an Epiphany collection (at all Masses January 5 and 6) of toddlers’ items (diapers, toys, etc.) – “Gifts for the Christ Child” – which will be donated to the Shepherd’s Maternity Home. Also, don’t forget to sign up for our Volunteer Brunch on Saturday January 12 at 10:00 AM by calling the parish office (570-223-9144).
God’s blessings and Happy New Year!
