Happy New Year! This weekend we are starting a new six-week series, entitled “The Story of Your Life.” This will be an invitation to reflect more deeply on the intersection of our story with God’s story. God’s story is epic. In Scripture we find his story, and the story of the men and women who entered his larger story. Each person was involved in God’s big story. As we celebrate this weekend the Feast of the Epiphany, we hear about the Magi and King Herod. The Magi entered into God’s larger story and made an impact on the world. Meanwhile, Herod focused on himself, and lived a much smaller, less meaningful life. We choose whether to be part of God’s larger story, or our small story. In this first week we will look at the Scriptures as a story, and what the Magi tell us about entering God’s story. We make a choice whether to live a smaller story by living for ourselves; or to live in God’s larger story.
In the bulletin this weekend, we have made available some questions for personal reflection, to help you dig deeper into your story. Take fifteen minutes, find some quiet time, and answer those questions. If you like you can even share your answers with family members, friends, or in small groups; it will make for interesting discussions. Here are some general questions as we kick off this series:
Do you believe there is a bigger story that God is writing about relationship with Him and that God relentlessly invites you into it?
Do you believe Satan is actively working against your relationship with God? Where specifically is Satan opposing you and creating mess in your life as you write your story?
What do you need to do differently in your life to actually accept God’s invitation and step deeper into His story and relationship with Him?
